Wellness Wednesday - a dinner club

For the last Wellness Wednesday post we touched on the physical wellness dimension with a look into our experience with yoga. Today's topic is about being social! In my mind exercise and physical wellness is one of the biggest things tied to wellness but after doing some reading and really exploring what is wellness I'm able to better see how everything is tied together and our own wellness is a direct product of our lifestyle.

Not only are we now prioritizing yoga and exercise classes but we're making an effort to be more social. Both Patrick and I tend to be more on the introverted and quiet personality side but we love going out and doing things. We really wanted to (rather I did and Patrick agreed) start building stronger connections with existing friends and maybe find some new friends.

Enter the Junior League, one of the oldest, largest, and most effective women's volunteer organizations in the world, encompassing more than 150,000 women in 291 Leagues in four countries. And specifically the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties (JLDOC).

My neighbor invited me to join her for an interest meeting last spring and we both decided to join. This turned into a wonderful opportunity to serve my community and develop friendships with like-minded women. Volunteering contributes to our wellness too but that's for another post!

I joined the JLDOC with a group of about 35 women and over the course of the spring we were participants in the provisional semester. Here we learned all about the requirements of JLDOC and how to be successful members within the League. I reached out to these women about midway through the semester to see who else was interested in being social! Here's the email I originally sent to our group:

So now we have a dinner club! We've been meeting every month since May. Patrick and I are both really enjoying it! It's nice to have an event to look forward to and socialize with other couples in our age range.

Dinner club and social wellness for the win!
